This is a little collection of recipes and recommendations concerning health and natural remedies, I collected over the years. To some of them, I am getting back to whenever my body tells me there is a potential threat of a cold or flu coming in, others I take as a prevention in winter to boost my immune system. It is important to note here that those remedies are not meant to cure any serious disease. For some of those aggressive bacteria and viruses, if you do not act fast enough, antibiotics and other prescribed medicine are the only way to go. Please go see your doctor in those cases. But still, often there is a little window, when your body is giving you some signs to act. Sometimes, it feels almost like your body asks you for some attention, maybe to calm down a bit and to respond to the warning sings. I would like to provide you here with some of those tools that you could use when certain of those warning signs show up. Whenever dear ones around are sick or struggling, I applied them and they often were working (it might definitly be that some of them are more functioning as a placebo and its rather the care you are giving to someone including your own body that is the actual cure).
When my dear friend was visiting me last month, she clearly struggled by the aggressive bacteria and viruses making her way from the kindergarden. Her work and surrounding does not allow the continuous sickness and forces her to get back to pain killers. The continuously degrading gut health and consequent harm on the immune system leads into a vicious circle. Still, our current health system does not really allow seeing the wholeness and complexity of our bodies and histories and asks for fast solutions and wonder medications healing us in no time. Let get us back on strengthening our overall immune system. Helping each other, caring for each other, sharing those tricks might be a little rebellion filling the gaps.
The recipes I am sharing here are no such wonder medication. They are based on commonly accessible plants (writing from Europe) and their remedies. A lot of this knowledge was approved and known for centuries, given from one generation to the next. Still, today, a lot of it got lost. This is mostly due to systemic patriach genoices that tortured and killed knowledgable, practicing women denunciating them as witches – particularly in central Europe with highest killing rates in Germany and France (in many cases not only the practicing ones but also others that neighbours or family members just declared as such and wanted to get rid off.)
With the loss of the knowledge went along a loss of the connection and capability to recognise the plants. For me, my interest into those remedies was a starting point to open my eyes for the different plants out there and learn to identify them. Let us bring that knowledge that also involves a lot of power. Power that we handed over to profit oriented pharma industry (which are using the plant cures in most medication and sell them in pills). But why not getting back to using the plants in the first place? We need a bit of knowledge of the plants, for sure. But maybe this opens our eyes for the plants around us and allows us to allow them the space and room they need to flourish?
